Total length of gutter around the house, measured along the eaves. A single-story ranch usually runs 120 to 180 feet; a two-story house with dormers and valleys can pass 300.

Indicative multipliers only. The spread inside a region is often wider than the spread between regions.

How it works

Where this gutter cost calculator gets its numbers

One dataset holds the installed cost of each gutter material per linear foot, its expected service life, and the share of that cost which is product rather than labor. One calculation module reads it, and every gutter figure on this site comes out of that module: the cost guide tables and this calculator.

The tool prices by the linear foot along the eaves, which is how the trade quotes. A single-story ranch usually runs 120 to 180 feet; a two-story house with dormers and valleys can pass 300. Walk the house with a tape or pace it off before comparing anything.

  • Installed cost covers gutter, hangers, downspouts and labor on a straightforward single-story eave.
  • A quality tier selects a slice of that material’s own range: gauge, coating, seamless versus sectional.
  • Add-ons are a share of the base cost: guards, old-gutter removal, fascia repair and oversized profiles are the usual line items on a gutter bid.
  • Totals are rounded, because gutter work is priced in feet and crews, not cents.

What it cannot know

What this gutter cost calculator does not know

Every figure here is a national bracket per foot. What no calculator sees is the wood behind the gutter and the ground under the downspout.

The state of your fascia
Gutters hang from the fascia board, and a gutter that failed has usually been soaking it. Rot is found at tear-off, priced per foot of board, and it is the most common surprise on this job.
Your roofline
Stories, steepness of the ground, landscaping under the eave, and how many inside corners and downspout drops the shape demands. Drops are where labor hides.
Where the water should go
A gutter is half a system. If the ground slopes toward the house, the money problem is drainage, not the gutter profile, and no per-foot price covers regrading or buried drain lines. The add-on prices extensions, not earthworks.
Whether guards make sense for you
Guards are priced here as an add-on, but their value depends entirely on your trees. Over a bare roof they are an accessory; under mature oaks they are the difference between a ladder twice a year and twice a month.

Using it well

How to use the estimate against a gutter quote

Gutters are a small-ticket trade with big percentage swings: a few hundred feet at a few dollars each leaves room for a quote to double without anyone blinking. Knowing the per-foot bracket is most of your negotiating position.

A bid well below the range is usually sectional gutter sold as seamless, or a crew that will not touch the fascia. A bid far above it is often a guard system carrying the whole price; ask for the gutter and the guards as separate lines and judge each against this page.

Ask every bidder the hanger spacing and the gauge. Both are cheap to skimp, invisible from the ground, and the reason one gutter holds a snow load while its neighbor folds.

For reference

Every gutter material the calculator prices

The bands the calculator runs on, per linear foot measured along the eaves.

Material Installed cost per linear foot, installed Lifespan Who it suits
Vinyl $3 – $6 10 – 20 years Snap-together sections sold by the length. The only gutter a homeowner can genuinely fit alone, and the first to sag and crack in hard sun or hard frost.
Seamless aluminum $6 – $20 20 – 30 years What most American houses get, rolled to length on the driveway so the only joints are at the corners. The default for good reason.
Galvanized steel $8 – $20 20 – 30 years Stiffer than aluminum and worth the difference where ladders lean on it or ice loads it. It rusts eventually, at the cut ends first.
Copper $15 – $40 50 – 100 years Soldered rather than sealed, and it outlives the roof it drains. Bought for the patina as much as the century of service.

Downspouts are counted and billed separately from the run itself.

This calculator returns indicative national brackets, not a quote. Your number depends on the true run length, the state of the fascia, the height and shape of the roofline and your local market. Use it to judge a bid, not to replace one.
