About Home Palais who publishes this site and how it is funded

An independent cost desk for American homeowners, funded by advertising rather than by your phone number.

Scroll

Home Palais answers one question in as much detail as it deserves: what does this project actually cost, and how do you tell whether the bid in front of you is fair.

Most sites that rank for that question are not publications. They are lead brokers, and the article is the part you read before the form. The form is the product, your details are the inventory, and the urgency in the copy is doing a job. We built this differently.

What we publish

Cost guides, material comparisons, and how to read a bid

The site is organized by project rather than by place. Each cluster covers one trade, from roofing and siding to HVAC, kitchens and solar, and holds the same set of pages: what the project costs nationally, how the materials compare, what a bid should contain, and answers to the questions homeowners actually ask.

Behind all of it sits one dataset and one calculation module. Every table, every worked example and the interactive calculators read from it, so the numbers cannot disagree with each other. How that works is set out in full in our editorial policy.

No quote forms

We never ask who you are

Home Palais does not run quote forms and does not sell contact details. There is no step where you hand over a phone number to see a number, and no embedded widget doing it on a partner’s behalf.

That rules out the most profitable business model in this category, deliberately. It also means we have no reason to talk you into work you do not need, because we earn the same whether you replace the roof this year or patch it and wait.

The calculators return their results with no email gate. If you want real bids, our guides tell you what to ask for and what a serious quote has to contain, and then you go and get them yourself.

No local pages

We do not pretend to know your ZIP code

There are no state, city or ZIP code pages on this site. Sites that publish thousands of them rarely hold local data behind them; the pages are generated from a national average with a place name inserted, and they rank without telling you anything.

Instead, every cost guide carries one section explaining how location moves the price, with indicative multipliers for the four census regions. That is genuinely all a static page can honestly tell you, and it is more useful than a page titled for your town that knows nothing about it.

How we are funded

Display advertising and affiliate commissions

Two revenue sources support the site. Display advertising, sold through an advertising network, and affiliate commissions when a reader buys a product through one of our links. Affiliate links cost you nothing extra and never change what we recommend.

Neither source buys editorial influence. Advertisers do not see coverage before it publishes and cannot have a guide changed. Nobody can pay to enter a comparison table or to rank higher in a buying guide. The full policy, including how sponsored articles are labelled, is on the editorial policy page, and the affiliate arrangement is set out in our affiliate disclosure.

The desks

Three desks, one byline per subject

Guides are split across three desks so that the same subject always carries the same byline and revisions stay consistent over time.

Author pages describe the beat and the working method. They claim no licenses or certifications: this is a cost publication, and a checkable credential we could not support would be worth less than none. When a credentialed contributor takes over a desk, their credentials go on the author page.
